Sheffield Doc/Fest is an international documentary and digital media festival held annually in Sheffield.
Since it's beginning in 1994, Doc/Fest has become the UK's biggest documentary festival and the third largest in the world. The BBC have called it "one of the leading showcases of documentary films".
We were approached with a plan to redesign and make multiple functional improvements to the relatively complex website, which handles all aspects of running a huge festival.
In the period of a few months, sheffdocfest.com has undergone a major transformation from generically structured, average-looking website into a vibrant and exciting portal for festival attendees and documentary enthusiasts, that works on both desktop and mobile devices.
The transformation of sheffdocfest.com is greater than meets the eye. Major structural work was undertaken including simplifying the scheduling, reworking the payments system and the provision of an API for use in the build of a mobile app by an external agency.
The seasonal nature of festival meant that tech support and improvements to ensure the software was secure, up to date and simple to use for the 10+ staff of the client required a greater manner of flexibility, a challenge we were able to meet.
With tens of thousands of visitors every year the website provides information, ticket booking, film submissions and up to date information on the festival and accompanying programme.
We always felt that the X8 team were available whenever we needed them and felt secure that we were partnering with a company who genuinely cared about the quality of our website. We're delighted with the results of our new web site and look forward to a long future working relationshipCharlie Phillips, Deputy Director
